A beautiful Non-Greek by yatz A beautiful Non-Greek by yatz
Greek's recent economic woes have apparently gotten the creative juices flowing at the Greek tourist Bureau. case in point: this poster, enlisting the most famous Greek ex-pat to pitch in for the mother land.

edit: as :iconvon-shonedogen: was good enough to point out, Diana is of course NOT greek - the tourism guys probably used her because of her Greek mythology connection.

Not sure I see the problem. I enable "download" when I put up a large file (which I rarely do); otherwise, all you have to do is right-click the pic, and save it to your computer.

I'm very aware of tha "right-click" option but I did mention how that often will result N us having 2 manually input a legible file name BUT it's a rather minor gripe anyway though!

Gorgeous! Great work on this, yatz! Love the anatomy and the interesting bikini she's wearing with the belt. Eyes are a bit red, were you going for that look?

They look yellow to me - but that's why I didn't play with them too much. I laid down what seemed like a pinkish base and tried to get some shadow worked in, but was afraid I would mess it up and left it as is. But I do think I'll get the eyes themselves back to blue - there was a purpose behind the eyes being brown, but, as no one seems to have caught on to it...

It's the white of the eyes that are a little red. Almost thought she was crying or something. No idea what the brown eyes refer to...

The brown eyes - that would be the model I used. But maybe it's just as well, as some people might view it as sacrilige...

Wow awesome definition on the arms! I think her bikini could have been smaller though hahaha

Well, not MUCH smaller - you'd need quantum manufacturing to make it, and I don't think the technology is quite there, yet.

I was streching it a bit - most people would just go :"ecch!!"; That's not ignorance - just different tastes. Don't really see a problem with that - our perception of the perfect female form is evolving all the time; there might concivebly be a time when a Lindsey Cope or a Pauline Nordin will be big Hollywood stars, and all the gyms will be flooded with women and teen girls, trying to get that super-ripped, sexy look...

I am sure Metal-Bent can speak for hirself. But I interpreted hir saying "when will* the ignorance end," as referring to the idea that muscular and athletic-bodied cisgendered women are unattractive, which derives from the sexist notion that there is something non-feminine about them or that they are lesser women.

Most people go running for the hills because of all the stigma behind FBB's and muscle women, not because there is something innately less attractive about them.

From my understanding however, it makes more evolutionary sense to be attracted to a physically fit women.

Strong, healthy man + Strong, healthy woman = strong, healthy offspring.

Wait. What? "Greek ex-pat"? I don't think so! Do I really even have to say it? Do you mean to suggest that Themyscira was ever a part of Greece?

Anyway, I'm just being a jackass. Great picture!

errr... Greek-ish? Seriously, I always thought of the Amazons as being Greek, seeing as how they got their start - so to speak - in Greek mythology. But the myths really speak of them as originating in Asia Minor, or even the Ukraine. Guess I have to figure out another way to explain the poster...

Well, of course we are only talking about DC comics Amazons and they certainly do have a strong Greek connection! But just how close Themyscira is to Greece itself, or if it was ever a part of Greece at some point in the distant past, is an interesting question. Is the island hidden by clouds somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean? Or is it in the Mediterranean Sea? I have read a lot of Wonder Woman comics, but not so many as to be anything like an "expert", and the continuity keeps getting rebooted anyway! So who really knows anymore!?

the mythological Amazons worshiped the same gods as the Greeks.
one of the Amazon queens married Theseus.
Another Amazon queen fought in the Trojan war... on the Greek side.

that make the Mythological Amazons pretty Greek, at least culturally.

now, the historical Amazons, if they existed, maybe not so much.

as to what makes a Greek in the classical times, that was actually debated a bit among the classical Greeks themselves. After all, Athens and Sparta were pretty different culturally, to say the least. I remember reading a direct translation of some old greek writings where it was being argued if the Macedonians were "truly Greeks", since they were pretty remote, and interacted with the barbarians up north a lot. As I recall, that statesman declared that since the Macedonians participated in the Olympics, that made them Greek, or at least "Greek enough".

So, if no Amazons participated in the classical Olympic games, that would decide that. Perhaps, depending on your definition. :)

And with that tourism went up 10,860,084.01%

But seriously this is one FANTASTIC image. Veins aside (I
'm not too crazy about too many) this is one of your best muscle jobs to date.

Yeah, it's pretty good - though I did (once again) chicken out of doing some real shadow work (the setting really calls for it!). Anyways, sorry about the veins - wasn't going to do them, but then decided to make it more "interesting"!
